Slavoj Žižek studierte Philosophie in Ljubljana und Psychoanalyse in Paris und lehrte Philosophie u.a. an der Universität Ljubljana und der European Graduate School. Seit dem Jahr 2007 ist Žižek International Director des Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities an der University of London. Zahlreiche Publikationen (u.a. Die Grimassen des Realen, Die Metastasen des Genießens, Das Unbehagen im Subjekt, Plädoyer für die Intoleranz, Die Tücke des Subjekts) machten ihn international bekannt.
