Presentation: Thoughts on Animation in Information Visualization

We visualize to enlighten people, to induce evidence-based insights, to convey knowledge. The goal is to provide an intuitive, accessible and memorable understanding of information. How can animation help make
complex things easy to grasp? What role does animation already play in today’s examples of visualization-based exploration, communication and evaluation of data? Let’s explore this symbiosis of two disciplines that successfully draw upon each other. The underlying principles will be demonstrated using practical and topical use cases from academia, visualization designers across the globe and some of my own work.
