RT’s functioning, financing, narratives, goal, outreach, and impact with Stephen Hutchings, International Expert on Russian Media, and Culture.

Stephen Hutchings is Professor of Russian Studies at the University of Manchester and Fellow of the UK's Academy of Social Sciences.  

Hutchings and his team have recently completed one of the most comprehensive studies on “the role of RT in projecting Russia for international audiences”: Reframing Russia for the Global Mediasphere: From Cold War to 'Information War'? 

He has published six monographs and five edited volumes on various aspects of Russian literary, film and media studies as well as many articles in journals ranging from Television and New Media, Journalism, and European Journal of Cultural Studies, to Slavic Review. He was President of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies from 2010-2013 

TOPIC: 

Understand modus operandi of RT and its international impact. Is RT a threat to democracy? How does RT adapt its narratives to international audiences? Which role is the RT expected to play in the current Ukraine crisis? 

RT was recently denied a licence in Germany. It will base it future operations for the German-speaking audience in Austria.
