About those who have chosen the sea to be free

Das Meer steht einerseits als Inbegriff für Freiheit und Neubeginn, für die Verheißung der Erfüllung von Sehnsüchten und Utopien; andererseits aber gleichzeitig für Tod, schmerzvolle Erfahrung körperlicher Grenzen und bittere Enttäuschung. Die vielen abenteuerlichen Mythen und Geschichten der letzten Jahrhunderte wurden abgelöst von tagesaktuellen Nachrichten über ertrunkene Menschen, gekenterte Boote, zurückgewiesene Flüchtlinge – das Meer wurde zunehmend auch zu einem Begriff, der für die Teilung der Welt steht, ein Sinnbild für politische Ungerechtigkeit und Maßlosigkeit. Die Programmreihe "Law and Lore of the Sea" beleuchtet diese Zuschreibungen, die "das Meer" umgeben aus kulturwissenschaftlicher und -historischer Sicht sowie aus Sicht von Seerechtsexperten und Ethnologie.
