Expanded Conference 9th to 11th September 2026 Skyloft, Ars Electronica Center Linz, Austria 

Since 2013, Expanded has evolved from the Ars Electronica Animation Festival into an international conference at the intersection of media art, animation, and interactive experiences. Building on its roots in "Expanded Cinema" and "Computer Animation," it now serves as an academic platform for artists, researchers, and curators worldwide. 

The fourteenth edition takes place from September 9 to 11, 2026, at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, as part of the Ars Electronica Festival 2026. Held in cooperation with ACM SIGGRAPH, all accepted papers are published open access in the ACM Digital Library and on the Expanded website. 

The program covers both Research Papers—focusing on scientific and interdisciplinary approaches—and Art Papers—highlighting artistic practice. 

The academic program is complemented by curated sessions that showcase innovative artistic perspectives, explore connections between creative practice, film, games, and applied research, present experimental works and VR projects, and feature insights from jurors as well as international collaborations. 

Together, these strands highlight the diversity of current research and artistic practice in animation, immersive media, and interactive art.
