I was told yesterday in no uncertain terms that I should speak between the tunes. And so it's not my fault. Find the person who told me this and let them know. This is a band called Columbia Icefield. The Columbia Icefield, for those of you that don't know, because surely most people in America don't know, is the beginning of the Columbia River, also known as the Mighty Columbia because it is truly mighty. It is a huge glacier in northern Canada which feeds a river that flows all the way down to about a couple of miles away from where I grew up, where it meets the Pacific Ocean. So the Columbia is an important thing for me, and this music is kind of music about that area and the nature of that area and the people of that area and the way that I grew up, which was quietly brutal is one way to put it. quietly brutal is one way to put it. We, I, the only thing that's important about the town that I grew up in is that Raymond Carver, the writer and poet, was born there, and the next day his parents moved. So it's a very, but we still claim him, and so I'm claiming him for the titles of these pieces. This one is called To the Skylights Where Rain Hammers On. And we're going to move on to another Raymond Carver entitled piece called Cutthroat Should Be Coming. Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon SILENT PRAYER © BF-WATCH TV 2021 © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. ¶¶ ¶¶ ¶¶ ¶¶ I'm sorry. guitar solo guitar solo guitar solo guitar solo ¶¶ ¶¶ guitar solo ¶¶ ¶¶ guitar solo ¶¶ guitar solo ¶¶ ¶¶ Thank you. And that doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was a big deal to my mom. And there was one other Swede in Klatskenai where I grew up, and his name was Gaylord Brown. That was his name. He was a good guy. And my mom always told me to stay away from the other people in town because they carried knives. I don't know why she said that. I mean, I kind of do, but she told me that. And then when I was young, I was about seven or eight, Gaylord Brown, the only other Swedish person in my town, was knifed to death in the Pixie Pot Tavern, in my town was knifed to death in the Pixie Pot Tavern. And my mom took me to see the bloodstain because she was like, see, stay away because everybody carries knives. And right above the Pixie Pot Tavern is where Raymond Carver was born. Full circle. Right after that, she took me to church. So there's a reason that I'm this awkward. We're going to play one more tune. It's actually a choral tune from Sweden that I knew as a kid. I'm not going to say it in Swedish. I'm calling it Now It's a Midsummer Night. But before we do that song, I'd like to introduce everybody in the band, if that's okay with you. All right. On the pedal steel guitar is Susan Alcorn. On the electric guitar is Ava Mendoza. On the drums is the mayor of Williamsburg, Ryan Sawyer. Thank you. There's a guy that drives me to and from the airport. His name is Spencer. He's the best guy ever. Ask Mary Halverson about him. When I leave on a trip, he weighs my suitcase as I'm getting it. He's like, it's pretty heavy. And when I come back, if it's a lot lighter, then he gives me a pat on the back. He's like, you sold a bunch of CDs. Good for you. My suitcase is reasonably lighter, but if you really want to make Spencer happy, and believe me, you do. He's the best person ever. Go buy some CDs, and I will take a picture of his happy face and send it to each and every person that bought a CD. Thank you very much. Now it's a midsummer night. We appreciate being here. We've all been to Wells before, and it feels like coming home after a long break, so thank you very much. applause Thank you. I Ode to the Queen. SILENT PRAISE Ode to the Queen.
