Teacher Education Radio Austria, das Studierendenradio der Pädagogischen Hochschule Oberösterreich. Faye, I'm so sorry, it's first try and failed. And Elisa. Yes. Yeah. You are both from Greece and Norway. Yeah. And you are doing Erasmus semester in Austria. So how are you? Welcome. And tell us something about you and where you're from. Great, should I go first? Yes. Okay, thanks. So first of all, I'm very excited to be here and thanks for having us today. It is a great experience for me. I have always wanted to do that, the truth is, since I was a little kid and I have heard, well, not so little, when I found out what Erasmus is. I had in mind that I want to go when I get in a university, I want to do that. And I chose Austria and I came here to Linz and I'm very happy with this choice because I have a great experience here, new friends, new experiences. I like the place very much, I've loved it. I even consider coming and moving here after a few years and I liked also very much my teachers, they are so kind and so helpful. So for me it's a great experience, really. Well, I came here for, I'd say, quite a different reason. Like I've always, as well as you, wanted to go on exchange. But then when I was trying to figure out what country to go to, because we had so many options, I knew that I didn't want to move to a warm country. But that has already failed me because it's so warm here and i wanted to go to a place where i didn't know many people had gone here just for a vacation so that it's like you want to experience something not everyone else has told you about several times so just trying something different and it's so great. The teachers are so friendly and nice and they're so easy to get in touch with over email, WhatsApp, anything. So it was more like throwing a dice or like... Yeah. Put a finger on the map. Great play. But you said like you wanted to go like since you like started university do you like travel like or did you also did a lot of traveling before before like Erasmus or yeah yeah I love traveling and the truth is that I've been in a lot of European cities mostly and because I'm also a singer I've been there for touring and stuff and I have to say that Vienna is for me maybe the most beautiful but the truth is that also Linz it's a smaller city I know but for some reason I have I have the city in my heart. I liked it very much, I don't know. It's very charming. So, by the way, the music we hear is from Faye. We hear it through the whole session today. It's your music. That's right. Have fun listening to it. Thank you. And what about you? With the traveling and all? Yeah. Well, I've mostly as well, again, as Faye, we've mostly been traveling through Europe. I have done that as well with my parents up through the years. But yeah, I wanted to stay in Europe because it felt safe, especially now with all the things going on. Europe feels like a safe spot to be for such a long period of time. I wouldn't want to go to America and then there's a lockdown and then I would have no way of getting back home. Because if I'm here and I was in a quarantine for two weeks here because there was so much going on, but at the same time I didn't feel that far away from my family from things that i knew about so it felt like a safe choice sort of yeah so you both are going to be teachers soon yeah so what are your study uh well my field is special education education and here I'm taking some education lessons and afterwards I would like to combine somehow my studies with music and I know that I can do it because music is so helpful with everything and it can help especially children and use it in education. That sounds good. I'm a primary school teacher, first to seventh grade. So from about six, five years old to about 12, 13 years old. And I mostly, so I'm gonna do my master's in Norwegian back home. But here it's more of the pedagogical view, different intakes on different parts of the school system at all. And I've also gotten one subject that is more angled towards how we can write our masters or bachelors for those who have to do that. And that is, I love that subject because it's so helpful for my masters, my future masters and all. And it's just helpful for my masters my future masters you know and it's just so fun having not only subjects that you have to teach but more like how you can use different tools to make those subjects fun mm-hmm I think also Erasmus is therefore we had such a short interruption from our caller from Ireland will be connected in let's say like 40 minutes but like let's go back to like how did it feel for you like the moment you pack your stuff and you know I go somewhere it's not such a holiday I go and jump into another system which is similar to my what I'm doing back home but totally different the different language different people what was like the curiosity the anxiety how did it feel let's start with you I felt felt so lost in the beginning because the second day I was here, I tested positive for COVID and I didn't know anyone. I hadn't even been to school yet. So the only contact I had down here was one of our teachers. So I was emailing back and forth with him not knowing a single person missing out on a trip and all so I was I felt so lost in the beginning and then when I finally got out and got to meet people and then starting to learn the system a bit more like learning that you have to bring cash everywhere you go the I'm not used to this. The moment you stepped or you were driving to the airport, I don't know, did you fly here or did you come by train? I did a plane, yeah. Yeah, so the way to the airport, wasn't it like, oh, am I doing the right thing? Well, I'd been planning this for a while. But so the only thing that were going through my mind there on the train was I'd forgotten to do one assignment for school back home. So I was sitting there like, I need to finish this. I need to do it before I land. I promised myself to do this. So I was just completely occupied by that missed assignment. But it was definitely the days leading up to that day were sort of stressful because I was like, what if I forget something? What if I don't bring this? And it turns out I really wanted to hear. So it was definitely like some sort of stress, but at the same time I was really curious to see. So it was a mix of many feelings okay yeah I agree I agree totally with that it was like mixed feelings but the truth is because I'm I get excited about traveling and I wanted this so much and I was really good prepared I I'm an organized person, so I organized everything and I knew what I would have to carry with me and every little detail, I was so ready. And when I came here, it was like a dream came true. So yeah, the feelings were mixed, but mostly for me was excitement. Yeah, that's somehow understandable, let's say. So far you have been here for four months already now. Yeah. What did you see, what did you do, what did you like the most, where it was like, wow. Let's continue with you. You said you had the idea to move to Linz and totally make it here the living. What gives you this inspiration? OK. Well, I love Greece. I love my country, of course. But when I came here, I love my country of course, but when I came here I was so excited and when I was starting to discover everything I felt that it suits me and I like the atmosphere, the mentality here of the people. I like how everything is organized and that is really helpful to me. Everything and everyone is organized and that is really helpful to me everything and everyone is helpful and I don't know it just I just felt that that's a good thing here I'm where I should be where I belong for some reason and I also have to discover a lot of things because until this point we've done so many things as students you can imagine of course but we also have things to discover for example we've been to many excursions along with a university to Krippenstein Dachstein and to Hallstatt it was dreamy dreamy yeah and I want to stay here to keep exploring and to live like that it's nice because I had the same feeling when I was in Greece first time yeah is this feeling so beautiful stay here mm-hmm maybe yeah maybe you get my point. You want to change flats? We could just move in there. We could try. And what was for you, like, if you go or like things you you saw you you've been there or like yeah i like uh i tend to do impractical stuff so uh one night i decided let's go to go to České Budějovice or what it's called. České Budějovice. Yeah, so I booked a train ticket the night before and just went by myself and it was pouring rain, but it was such a cute city, even though it was pouring rain and no one were out in the streets or anything, but it was just so nice doing something all by yourself when you're always surrounded by lots of nice people of course but sometimes it's just being that independent and trying to do something without any support of anyone else special adventure yeah it's really fun and especially when it's in a country that you have no idea what they're saying or they're writing or anything so that is something I would definitely recommend just going on the trip all by yourself book it one night before don't plan it at all super fun but also like doing picnics by the Danube those are always great just hiking up to Frans Josef Vartes Turm that is also a great spot that lots of tourists miss because they just go to Pestlingberg but they forget about that tower it's really nice. I think going somewhere without a plan and enjoying it is a nice keyword to play some music maybe we find something that suits or fits to this sentence. What about the technique? You can't control them bad girls Your bad girl, fade over Cursed Fire Shake, shake, shake One, two, three, call me Lady B I'm a bad girl and bad girls royal One, two, three, call me Lady B I'm a bad girl and bad girls royal You a bad girl, you need a bad one Hattie like a baddie girl, a baddie bad one Hotty like a baddie girl, baddie girl Hotty like a baddie girl, badda badda girl Hotty like a baddie girl, baddie girl Baddie girl, baddie girl Hotty like a baddie girl, baddie girl Hotty like a baddie girl, baddie girl Hotty like a baddie girl, badda badda girl Hotty like a baddie girl, baddie girl Baddie girl, baddie girl Woooo Baddie girl, baddie girl Anytime you want your butt, wear them reds Touch me, email and come ride with me Treat them bad guys like majesty me in my lane, come ride with me Treat them bad gals like majesty When you whine in insanity Kill your boom boom with a fatality Mama sister come whine with me Whine it up, turn it up baby Come fall in love, love with the G Nasty, nasty baby I got the recipe Bad gal, my gal, come set it for me Come set, wind up, closer my gal, come set it for me Wind up, closer to me Baby, come shine it for me So bad gal, you damn I love me Baby, come shine it for me So bad gal, I damn I love me So bad gal One, two, three, call me Lady B I'm a bad girl and bad girls royal You a bad girl, you need a bad one One, two, three Call me Lady B I'm a bad girl and bad girls royal You a bad girl, you need a bad one Hattie like a baddie girl Baddie girl Hattie like a baddie girl Baddie girl Hattie like a baddie girl Baddie girl Baddie girl Hattie like a body girl Body girl Body girl Hot till like a body girl Body girl Hot till like a body girl 바라바라 girl Hot till like a body girl Body girl Body girl ស្រូវនប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ប់ Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Das Studierendenradio der Pädagogischen Hochschule Oberösterreich. a song that I wrote. Well, the others as well, I think the two previous ones, Born to Be in Love and Night After Night, that was Bad Girl, the last one. And these are released already back in Greece. And so, what do you want me to tell you exactly? How came you up with the idea for the song? If you want to talk. Yes, of course, of course. Well, I'm writing almost all of my songs, all of the songs that we release with my band, The Mode. It's a dance group, not with guitars and piano like a band, but it's a music group consisting of me, the singer, performer, lyricist, and the guys are the DJs and the producers. And we have this special thing, the DJs are masked, they're wearing masks, and we're a bit eccentric with our outfits and stuff and we've been touring in Greece and some European cities the last 10 years and this is one of our maybe latest songs Bad Gal now we're yeah we're having a new label a collaboration with an Italian record label and we're releasing a new song in a few days so maybe everybody could go in our site and facebook instagram and stuff to check them out and youtube of course the mode is a group the name and fake cross maybe we can put it later in the screen oh thank you very much thank you thank you for playing those here thank you for bringing the music here. You have also some secret talents that you do? I can play the flute, like the old flute that you play in primary school. Oh! I'm decent. But it's okay! But you can never make that sound good. It always sounds just like high-pitched noises in your mind but it's i'm not too bad at that one we should have do we have a flute not hitting what i'm supposed to hit so we talked about linds during the day during like what you can see when it's nice weather but what about the night you I mean through the Corona and all the stuff so all the clubs were closed and Erasmus is not only about being at the University and it's also to explore the new city which is exists in the night as well what do you think about nightlife in Linz whoever wants to start our taste in nightlife is pretty different yes I I figure that you're more like the nightclub type person maybe well I don't know if I can say that I like go explore the nightlife of course and I've been to some bars and some clubs and I have to say that I really liked it and I enjoy going out here in Linz, the truth is, but it's not that you know I'm going every day, every night, party animal. Yeah I also like to explore other things like having a picnic as you mentioned. I love the side with Danube and the bridges. I love that spot over there. And I also like to try different cuisines and try new restaurants and little spots that they are hidden in the old city. Yeah, super nice. little spots that they are hidden in the old city yeah my favorite bar here is the one on the boat on the Danube I wanted to go there it's so nice it was closed yesterday so I couldn't go so you mentioned food which is also a big thing especially when you're long time is there something you miss back from home yes like i've been to greece i've never been to norway and i have no clue about no norwegian food or whatever so Yeah, then do I. Yeah, lots of people don't really know about that because we don't really talk much about it because we're not necessarily that big fans of it. Like the older generations love it, they worship it. But the younger generations, we're kind of getting a bit tired of it. So there's lots of sheep so sheep in kale that's our national dish. Sheep in kale. Sheep in kale. Okay. And then you got sheep's head. I've never had that one. It looks a bit creepy to be honest. Yeah. And then you got some different sorts of fish like fish that you pour some like lutefisk if you've ever heard about that one. It's like jelly, it looks like jellyfish. Oh, yeah. It's not. I've seen that. Yeah. It's a little bit gross. It is a bit gross. But the thing that I do miss about my home food and all is the brown cheese. Because we have this one cheese that is sort of sweeter and it's brown and it's just so good I brought some for class two days ago because that was our national day and they got to try that with knäckebröd and butter and I said to them just to lower their expectations like I know that I talk about how much I love it but I do not expect any of you to like it. But they all left that. So when they all left that day, they were like, this is great. I love this cheese. So the cheese is really good. But like if you want to try something a bit on the edge with like the sheep's head, lots of sheep, like sheep with sticks. It's just lots of sheep and fish yeah i think sheeps and cheese you can go with this like greek food a lot of cheese a lot of things about greek food we have a variety of products we have a lot of vegetables and fruit and meat, of course. Greeks love meat. And I've seen that Austrians do love meat as well. Well, we also love fish because we have a lot of, you know, fishing going around. We have a lot of sea around Greece. And actually we have everything, pasta and rice, lentils and we have these great homemade meals. They are not that popular, they're not so well known but if you go to a tavern, a traditional tavern or something, you will have the chance to taste them. I have no words about Greek food. I think you've already heard some good words about it. So maybe you can go there and taste it yourselves. Is there something you miss, you can't find here? Like you said, the cheese. We have cheese, but it's not the brown one. We have the hard yellow one, the soft. Is there something that's like oh yeah this is good but there's something that's i'm really missing well my friend would say gyros and suvlaaki because this is our street food it's meat in a pita bread with french fries and jajiki and with french fries and jajiki and onions tomatoes and stuff ketchup but the truth is that i don't eat meat so i'm not gonna say that but i'm gonna say my grandma's uh homemade food oh oh that's delicious grandmother if you can hear us come come to lynch eleni the name is eleni eleni yeah dear mrs eleni please come here urgently and what about austrian food what's what did you eat and what's maybe i can take this home back home like the schnitzel here it's better than the schnitzel that you get in the stores back home like the schnitzel here is better than this nitzel that you get in the stores back home definitely but it should be the with the bread crust yeah yeah I know about this Mitchell I can taste it but I know it's a very popular food here I've also noticed that there are a lot of different sweets and desserts. For example, we have Linca Tote. I want to taste it. I'm a little bit, you know, I don't like so much jam and things like that, but I will give it a try because I know it's traditional here. And I also like the fact that there is always a vegetarian option. I respect that. I like that because in Greece sometimes it's hard for a vegetarian or pescetarian or a vegan to find something to eat because everything has to do with meat and its products you know. But it's not a long time ago that you had to struggle the same thing here. Yeah? Yeah, it's became famous, modern, trendy. Did you eat Knudel, Semmelknudel? I know Knudel! I made a mistake of buying it at the store and trying to make it myself and I told my teacher here about it that I made made grammelknödel. And I said that I don't think I did it right or this was just not for me. And he said, you shouldn't have done that one. You should have done the speckknödel. It's much better. You didn't know. I didn't know. There are knödel with inside meat and they're just like dumplings, just knödel a lot of bread yeah so this is very nice very good this is like for me one of the best austrian things is like yeah just a ball of bread you can put it and eat it like an apple you can cut it yeah um what about austria? What else can you, what else take you home? What impressions? If you come home and somebody says, yeah, how was Austria? How are people? What are you going to tell them? I would say that people here are pretty friendly, because people, they just smile and I got so much help getting off the trams when I'm carrying lots of things and they often come up to me as speaking Austrian because they assume that I know German really well and then I'm like I'm sorry I don't know that much German and then there's like no problem no problem we'll talk to you in English instead this I've just had good experiences and people have been so nice to me yeah I would say the same I think they're really friendly and helpful and kind and they how to tell that they want to help you as much as they can they want to find you the best solution for you. I've seen that from our university very much. And also there are some people that oh they're always also quiet, really quiet, peaceful. I've never seen something you know loud or maybe I don't know it didn't happen oh yeah I've seen with some day sometimes in the at the weekend when they're holding these bottles of wine and they're out there little bit drunk like Norwegians so yeah but only in these cases otherwise they're really calm and some of them knows english some of them know how to speak english but some of them uh really don't they're afraid this is a little bit weird for me because in greece everybody has to speak english everybody because maybe of the tourism and stuff and the whole history like where like tourists or ships from abroad like there's always been trading to Greece yeah wherever you come from is like there's some connection points and I think through the through the history people develop mentality that they just talk English and they're afraid. I think like in Austria a lot of people can't talk English but it's cool English and then they're afraid of not telling it right I don't want to blame myself. Oh yeah well in Greece they have the worst pronunciation and they are not afraid to show it. They're like, come on, come on, this is good food, good food, something like that. In, in. You know, they try, even the older ones. They know what it is. Which is somehow also sympathetic. they try even the the older ones yeah like I mean our dear friend boss teacher Christian is like unfortunately in quarantine but like we talk and I think the things you said about Austria he will say the same about Norway. He has been quite a couple of times to Norway and every time like yeah this is it works like way better people are more civilized like they know how to behave it's they following rules my mom would disagree they were here last weekend and they were so surprised that people actually stopped and waited for the green man to come up when you were at a light cross and that there was this own light for just the bikers as well they were like people actually stopped they They follow rules. So I guess it's more like what cities you're in because Christian, I know that the city he's in is quite a calm city, and it's more like on the southeast, and it's not in the areas where they get really drunk because that's like the rest of that area it's just a party area everyone parties all the time but in that city specifically it's just for nice walks by the water and I've seen so many of his pictures and they're so great the sunsets there are so nice and which city are you from I am from a small city called Vestby. Super small, but Christian had heard about it because he stopped there on his way to Oslo. It's like more in the north-south. Yeah, so if Norway is like this arm, then Oslo is about here, and down here is where I study and this is where I'm from and now my parents live there we are yeah yes and you told me before like you are from Thessaloniki yes Thessaloniki for me the most beautiful city in greece but we also have beautiful islands i have to say that yeah we like last time we met we were talking about kakidiki ah yeah the three legs yeah yeah yeah yeah um i think it's time for another another song yeah from Faye maybe she can afterwards you tell us again about the song maybe Under the lights, I dream of you Giving me love, that's all I can do Time for a change, I'm not a fool Under the lights, maybe there's a trap All by myself, I'll figure it out Is it a flower, Is it a girl? Is it a girl? You should, I'm bleeding Is it a girl? You should, I'm bleeding Is it a girl? You should, I'm bleeding I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding Boom, boom, boom Is it a girl? I say, I say I say, yeah Untertitelung des ZDF für funk, 2017 Das Studierendenradio der Pädagogischen Hochschule Oberösterreich. I'm also singing. Yeah? Is It a Gun? It's a collaboration with a producer from Greece called Sinda. And that was really popular when it first released. It was played on the radio. We have also Mad TV, a huge music channel. And it was one of our hits I could say yeah is it a gun mm-hmm okay there are also video clips and everything people can go and find us if they write the mode on YouTube Facebook Instagram and afterwards maybe we can show them on the screen too yeah we talked to the technique guys yeah we saw it just like during the travel is there something like you like you did or you explore you're brave enough to dare to do some things that you didn't do at home? Well, I first tried Cano Kayak and Cano Polo. I think this is the name. Yeah, it was the first time and I said okay let's go try it and I liked it. It was really exciting. Yeah, but is it something you don't have in Greece or you... Well, there isn't, you know, we have it in Greece but in some specific, you know, places. Not in Thessaloniki, for example. Yeah, we have a canoe and kayak and maybe somewhere where is, where are rivers, nature. Thessaloniki, you know, it's just a big city. It's a little bit difficult to find something near. Yeah. When you like it, you were like also a bit proud, like, yeah, that's like, I did something where I'm probably not interested. Like you give the special thrill, like when you're on travel, like getting especially crazy. Oh, something else or about that yeah about like like how did you feel like afterwards like oh yeah I give it a try and it was nice yeah I liked it yeah I had that nice feeling that wow that was something new and I like that I did it and maybe I could go again maybe next time you join me because she was she didn't yeah I was so after that day so I just had to sit in the shade and try to get gain some energy again but we had beautiful photos my you know for that I was a photographer so you tried photography for the first time I've taken lots of pictures before. But since I came here, I started crocheting. Not as much action in that. But I also, me and my friend Aiden, who's from Ireland here, we went to get our noses pierced. And that's something we've never done before. But we were sitting there eating at Plastity. And then we saw a place where they had like tattoo and piercings and we just had the idea to let's go and get some nose piercings right now that was the nose piercing I saw in Aiden so we have five more minutes until our call. I will hopefully jump in and hopefully get the connection right to Ireland. some school systems have you been to school here in austria like did you saw through the through the practical did you saw anything from school well you're in practice place but they wouldn't approve it back home for me so i couldn't do it but i've heard lots of stories from you guys yes yes i'm with ifa in a class here in Linz, Europa Schule, and we have kids from 6 to 9, it's a mixed graded class and we teach them English. And I have to say that I really liked this school, I liked it when I first saw it and then going in, I liked it very much, it's, you know, of course it's very nice, very clean and stuff, but I liked most that I saw glass walls, for example. I've seen so many colors and decorations and the children looked so calm and happy being there and I'm also so excited with my class that I teach there with IFA and we have Susan our practice teacher she helps a lot and I also had the chance to play some music to them Susan also uses her guitar to teach English songs and they learn and this is exciting for me English songs and they learn. This is exciting for me. I'm glad that I did that and I participate because I like it very much and I think that the teachers are really organized. Now, I thank you. We will maybe afterwards talk about school education system in your countries but as I see we have ouren, Stefan Gruppelmeier. Ja, grüß Gott, Herr Größtereich. Guten Tag. Hallo nach Irland. Hi. So was Spannendes. Wir sind ja hier quasi gerade. thing should i would you recommend ireland for them like if they are already here they should go on to ireland before going home Ich würde es dir anrechnen. Essen, trinken, was könnt ihr uns empfehlen? Sounds nice. Ja. What is your mission? Was macht ihr in Irland? Vielen, vielen Dank. Wir sind im Studio. Danke schön. Ciao, ciao. Ciao, viel Spaß. Ich habe einige Wörter verstanden, weil ich Deutsch kenne. Hast du schon Deutsch gelernt? Ja, ich. Ich habe auch Deutsch gelernt. Ja? Gut. me yeah i've had german as well yeah great yeah and like is there a big difference between like norwich norway oh it's so similar it is yes so i chose the german for beginners class here because i wasn't sure how much my german i remembered from eighth to tenth grade and there are so many times I'm like yeah so that's the same word with the exact same spelling and stuff like where you got the same words or the same the same way of putting your words together like strassenbanehalt, halterstelle, halterstelle, Holdestopp. It's super similar. Unkel, Tante, that's the same words. Cousine, same word again. So I mostly just guess and see how it goes. That's great. And you had German back in Greece? When I was in before high school in gymnasium we call it gymnasium when I was like 13 14 years old and afterwards I had my degree and then I stopped for a couple not a couple but a lot of years and then I had to remember them again but a lot of years, and then I had to remember them again. And when I came here, I picked German advanced. Because I already knew the basics. And I can understand very good if someone talks relatively slow and not like. And I can speak a little bit, but not in a very good level yet. I'm working on that. So yeah, we are... Before we were talking about school, you were talking... You told us that like you are in the school, you're teaching English there. So you don't... You're not trying to improve your German? Yeah, not there. They were not allowed to speak German there because the children have to use their English, have to understand English, have to ask something in English. That's the point. But I practice German almost everywhere else else when I'm out the supermarket at a cafeteria of course in the university and I like that I have this chance that was actually a reason that I chose Austria for my Erasmus program because I knew that is it like you ask a question in German and then you get the answer like wow I should have asked in English like I don't know cafeteria at schools I ordered the sandwich in German and then she asked me something oh and I stood there What did she just say? So I just said, what? And she said, OK, maybe she'll say it slower. Yeah, yeah. No, same thing again. Completely lost. So I said, I'm sorry. I don't know that much German. I don't understand her. I tried, but. I tried. But that's the thing if you go to different countries and to foreign countries. And then it's a kind of Respectfulness or I don't know like goodwill You learn a bit of your of the language and then yeah, you want to improve yourself You got the restaurants ask because like you repeated this question for like 15 times and then you go there and ask, but then you never realize, they could think that I know this language. And then start speaking to you fluently, like, wow, I didn't expect that kind of answer. Maybe we should try to speak a little bit, you know, Ich möchte, like this. Like obviously, make it obviously like... We're not from here, but we kinda speak. We try. Adding like some accent on top of it. Ja, ja. Ich mochte. Ich mag. Ich meide. top of it. About education system back to your country I think like Norway Scandinavian countries are like the Valhalla for for education is it true? Well Finland is better than us. Statistically, their results are proven to be better and they're happier. Same with Denmark. They've got lots of happy students and pupils. But I feel like it's pretty similar between the Nordic countries, the school system, how it works. And you go through first to seventh grade with all the same subjects and they get more advanced as far as you as long as you go of course and then you got lower secondary that now they've gotten more electives so you can choose some work-life subject where you get to really feel how it's like to create value for a client, for a fake client, the school assigns it to you, and getting that hands-on experience. Also, this is where we start doing more than just English as a foreign language. And then it all goes crazy with upper secondary, and there are so many pathways. I did some nature use, it's what, like the direct translation is nature use, but it's more like farming, and I added some science on top of that so that it's more angled towards veterinarian studies. Figured out that I didn't want to be a vet anyways. But then I got the maths and the science parts of it, and you could do so many different things and you could stay there for Four years and do two years of school and then two years out as a trainee as a paid trainee And then it's off to studies after that. Yeah, I mean it's good. It's like how to If you don't it's not necessary to know what you want. If you know what you don't want, half the job is done. What about Greece? Well, Greece, I have to say that the school system is still a little bit old. For example, before we had the coronavirus situation you know we never used like online you know classes and stuff and afterwards when they everyone had to use this method even though the youngest students the youngest children it was a little bit hard to it was so yeah it was all of a sudden and also the teachers had to learn how to use this apps and you know the internet and they struggled but now I think they were forced so now they they know much better but in general in general I think we will have a lot of things to do to change. For example, when you want to get in the university, there are the national exams. We call them panelinis, national Greek exams. And it includes some lessons. You have to write the exams of course but it's included a lot of by heart learning and this I think this is not useful for the students it's only stressful and it's the the biggest maybe problem until now and they all dislike it. They all, only the private lesson teachers like it because they are so good paid by this. They have to work, we have to help the students because the students can't do it by themselves and the school doesn't help them to do it. So this is, for me a it's a disadvantage but the advantage is that they are trying now the teachers they're trying to learn new methods they're trying to follow you know the education trends in the systems and stuff and I think they're trying to... Not to get hit anymore. You don't get hit and slapped if you don't know. They're trying to do their best for their students even though the state isn't that helpful sometimes. Yeah. Later, like you did this national exam and then you can go on any university you want or do you need some GPA or whatever? Oh no, it's a very complicated system. You have to choose some universities and put them in a list and then according to your grade you will get in the university but you can only get in a university of this list. You can do anything else, you can do anything else you can choose anything else and if you want something else then you have to give the exams the other the next year which is also very unfair you have to do it twice yeah if you don't like for example um i want to go to the education to the psychology or something and then you have another option and then you you consider you think of it a little bit you have second thoughts and say no I don't want psychology I want law and you can't do that you have to do the exam again one year of hard you know reading letting studying and pay the private lessons yeah that's that's madness I hope it takes an energy what about Norway well when you when you're leaving upper secondary you have to have an amount of different subjects different hours of those and then you have all of your grades put together and then that's your grades and that's what you're competing with everyone else about. So then you choose, I think it's 10 different paths to your studies and then you could just apply for anything basically, but you don't apply for the school, you apply for the different studies. And also there are two different ways sort of of getting in because some people are competing with their first time diploma but some people are completely competing with just their diploma so it's based on how much time you've spent out of school. So that'll be harder for them if they haven't been studying. And then if you complete, let's say, a year study, then you keep those points, and then those will come along with you if you want to study something later on. So it will be easier for me to get into a higher grade study now than it would have been when I came out of upper secondary because now I have lots of points, even though they're not necessarily in that field that I would like to change to. So it's a bit complicated, but I think it's simple enough because I've been through it, of course. But I don't have to retake anything, luckily. And like the primary school you said like you have like schools where you're from first to seventh grade yes and then you do you have the secondary school yes so exactly we got lower secondary from eighth to tenth grade and everyone gets in there because we have no grades at all in first to seventh you're allowed to give out points like you got a 97 out of 100 but you're not allowed to give them a grade at all from first to seventh and then eighth to tenth you get grades and those will decide what upper secondary you will get into so but you you'll never had any grades until eighth grade so that's something a lot of pupils have a hard time dealing with because they're not used to it maybe you can give me a short answer about greece like is it the same school from first to seventh to eighth grade or to the fourth grade like in austria In Greece, things are a little bit different. We have primary school, six grades, and then we have gymnasium, three grades, and then high school, three grades. So this is until 18. And then at 18, finishing the third grade of high school, you give the national exams to get in a university. Thank you it's four o'clock I think we are off but for the thing and for the internet thank you this was Terra FM next month next session and yeah thanks very very much for having us here wish you all the best Vielen Dank für die Einladung. Ich wünsche Ihnen alles Gute.
